Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to arrive in Ghana this week for his official unveiling, marking the beginning of a crucial phase in the team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The seasoned Portuguese tactician has signed a short-term four-month deal tasked with guiding Ghana into the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Swift Change After Disappointing Results

Queiroz’s appointment comes in the wake of Otto Addo’s dismissal following a disappointing international break. Ghana suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna before losing 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart—results that ultimately led to a change in leadership.

In response, the Ghana Football Association acted swiftly to bring in Queiroz, banking on his vast experience to steady the team ahead of the global showpiece.

Formal Unveiling and Key Introductions

Upon arrival, Queiroz will be officially unveiled by the GFA in a ceremony expected to draw key stakeholders and media attention. As part of formal protocol, he will also be introduced to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.

Immediate Focus on World Cup Build-Up

Following his unveiling, the 73-year-old will quickly turn his attention to on-field preparations, starting with international friendlies against Mexico and Wales on June 2. These fixtures are expected to play a key role in fine-tuning the squad ahead of the tournament.

Tough Group Awaits Ghana

Ghana will compete in Group L at the World Cup, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17. The Black Stars will then face England on June 23 before wrapping up their group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Experience to Guide Black Stars

Queiroz brings an impressive World Cup résumé, having guided South Africa to qualification in 2002, led Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010, and managed Iran in both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.

With Ghana aiming to move beyond the early exits suffered in Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022, the veteran coach is expected to inject discipline, experience, and renewed belief into the squad as they chase a stronger showing on football’s biggest stage.
