The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has rejected the urgent request by USM Alger and the Algerian Football Federation to suspend CAF’s decision to award RS Berkane a 3-0 win over USM in the first leg of the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The first leg was not played because Algerian immigration confiscated RS Berkane’s jersey stating that it contained the Moroccan map which illegally also contains Western Sahara.
The Algerians demanded that RS Berkane play the game with a jersey that had no Moroccan map stating that anything Morocco is not welcome in Algeria. RS Berkane refused and did not play the game at all.
CAF awarded a 3-0 victory to RS Berkane for the first leg after sitting on the case. On Sunday in Morocco, USM Alger did not honour the second leg. CAF has yet to make a decision but it is believed the Algerians will be punished severely.
USM Alger and Algerian Football Federation thought they were going to win the case but they have been dismissed by CAS.
RS Berkane will play against Zamalek in the finals, obviously.
