Kumasi Asante Kotoko dared Egyptian side Al Ahly in a group phase fixture in the Continent’s most prestigious club tournament and instantly etched an unforgettable record in African Football.

Playing at the hostile Cairo International Stadium, Al Ahly needed points badly in a group alongside CS Sfaxien, JS Kabyle and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Fielding experienced players like Wael Gomaa, Mohammed Shawky, Mohammed Aboutrika and Angolan international Flavio Amado by Portuguese coach Manuel Jose, it took only 19 minutes of the game for the porcupine warriors to be obliterated. Egyptian legend, Aboutrika was the first to score after he converted a penalty in the 9th minute of the game.

Mohammed Shawky and Osama Hosny both assisted by Aboutrika scored on the 11th and 17th minutes respectively to put the Red Devil’s three nil up. The hottest striker on the continent at the time, Angolan Amado Flavio inevitably added his name on the scoresheet in the 19th minutes of the game to Put the game beyond Kotoko.

Young Burkinabe striker, Ahmed Simba Toure and inexperienced forward Mark Adu Amofa looked helpless and frail for Kotoko against a back three of top-notch defenders like Wael Gomaa, Mohammed Sedik and Shady Mohammed all of the Egyptian National team. The disgrace endured by Kumasi Asante Kotoko in front of 80,000-seater filled stadium in Cairo remains one of the most unforgettable moment for every Fabolous fan.
