Chelsea lead race for Mohammed Kudus despite Tottenham interest

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has hinted that Mohammed Kudus could be heading to Chelsea this summer, as interest in the Ghanaian playmaker continues to grow.

The West Ham United midfielder has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium, with both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly in pursuit. However, Chelsea appear to be leading the race as they continue to strengthen under new manager Enzo Maresca.

The Blues have already secured deals for João Pedro and Jamie Gittens, but sources say the club is still eager to reinforce its attacking options — with Kudus high on their list.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mick Brown, who has held scouting roles at both Manchester United and West Ham, acknowledged Kudus’ undeniable potential but also raised concerns about his consistency.

“It looks like Kudus will be leaving West Ham,” Brown said. “There’s been a lot of interest in him, but these clubs aren’t going to pay £80 million. They’ll try to negotiate a lower fee, but West Ham will still make big money.”

Despite noting that Kudus didn’t have his best season, Brown believes that clubs like Chelsea are confident they can unlock his full potential.

“Chelsea are the latest ones looking to move. They’ve agreed deals for other attackers, but they’re not stopping there. Kudus has real admirers at Stamford Bridge.”

Kudus, who had a standout debut season with 14 goals and six assists across all competitions, experienced a slight dip last term, scoring five times. Yet, his natural ability and versatility continue to attract attention from top clubs.

Currently, the 24-year-old is enjoying a break in Ghana while transfer talks continue. As the summer window unfolds, a move to Stamford Bridge looks increasingly possible — though Tottenham are still keeping close tabs on the situation.
