Chris Hughton’s tenure as head coach of the Black Stars has taken a hit with back-to-back defeats in the October international break, first against Mexico (2-0) at the Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, October 15, and then a heavy 4-0 loss to the United States.
Prior to these two losses, the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager had been enjoying a five-game unbeaten run with the four-time African champions. His record now reflects two defeats in seven matches since taking charge of the team in March 2023.
In Wednesday’s match, the USA took the lead in the 10th minute when Giovanni Reyna capitalized on a defensive error.
Christian Pulisic added a second from the penalty spot after a Gideon Mensah foul, and Florian Balogun capitalized on more defensive frailty to score the third in the 22nd minute.
A well-executed indirect free kick in the 39th minute, converted by Reyna for his second goal, added a fourth to Ghana’s woes.
