Former Black Stars head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has denied getting $100,000 from the Ministry of Youth and Sports when his contract terminated in 2021.
During a press conference last Wednesday, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif said that, although admitting that the country still owes C.K Akonnor and Milovan Rajevac added each was paid $100,000 when the Ghana Football Association decided to relieve them of their positions.
However, Akonnor has come out to refute Ussif’s statements, stating that the specific sum he received was not revealed by the minister.
”I never received the kind of money the minister mentioned. I don’t want to put out how much they paid me but it was not $100,000 as the minister said,” Akonnor told Graphic Sports.
The 47-year-old also asked the minister to look at his contract with the GFA, which was still on file at the FA. He requested the minister to look into the contract to see how they arrived at that figure.
”My contract is still with the FA and if he likes he can go and check the agreement we had and see before making the claim and he will know that he is wrong,” Akonnor stated.
