CK Akonnor has guided Gor Mahia to win the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League title with two matches remaining in the season.
The Kenyan giants secured their 22nd league crown after title rivals AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet on Sunday.
The result left Gor Mahia at the top of the table with 68 points, four ahead of AFC Leopards, who have only one game left to play, making it impossible for them to catch the leaders.
Gor Mahia’s week 33 fixture against Mara Sugar was postponed due to a court-related issue, but the club had already done enough to confirm their status as champions.
Akonnor, a former Black Stars coach, took charge of the club in August 2025 and worked alongside a strong Ghanaian technical team made up of assistant coach Bismark Kobi Mensah, goalkeepers’ trainer Ben Owu, and video analyst Joshua Kofi Boafo.
The club’s successful campaign was also boosted by the performances of Ghanaian players Enock Morrison, George Amonoo, Ebenezer Adukwaw and Ebenezer Assifuah, who played key roles throughout the season.
The title triumph marks another major achievement for Akonnor in his coaching career as he continues to make an impact outside Ghana.
