Retired Ghanaian footballer Baffour Gyan has offered words of wisdom to his compatriot Mohammed Kudus, urging him to consult with his family regarding the reported lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Wontumi FM, Gyan advised Kudus to discuss the matter with his family before making any decisions about the deal.
“He is a Ghanaian, and we all love him, but there are some decisions that you take with your family, and this is one of them. It’s a decision he has to make with his family,” he said.
Gyan himself knows a thing or two about making big career decisions. He played a key role in convincing his brother Asamoah Gyan to accept an offer to play for Chinese side Shanghai SPG in 2015. Asamoah Gyan, who was one of the highest-paid African footballers at the time, received a two-year deal worth £225,000 per week.
Reflecting on his own experience, Baffour Gyan said, “I was part of those who pushed him to China.
Asamoah Gyan admitted it was a difficult move but, after consulting with his family, was convinced it was the right step.
“It was a difficult decision for me, but I spoke to everyone around me, and we decided it was the best move for me. Luckily, it turned out well for me, and we have managed to establish companies that are employing Ghanaians.”
Now, as Kudus considers a reported $150 million transfer fee and a weekly wage of $300,000 from Al-Hilal, Gyan’s advice is clear: involve your family in the decision-making process.
The Saudi Pro League side is also offering perks such as business class travel for his family, free accommodation, and cars.
