Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi is on the verge of making history after English Premier League side Coventry City agreed a deal worth €27 million plus €3 million in bonuses for his transfer from FC Nordsjælland, according to Danish outlet Tipsbladet.
The 20-year-old Black Stars midfielder is set to become the most expensive player ever sold by a Scandinavian club if the move is completed, surpassing FC Nordsjælland’s previous record sale of Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah, who joined Lyon for €25 million plus €5 million in add-ons in 2023.
Yirenkyi reportedly chose Coventry City after being convinced by Frank Lampard’s project, with assurances of a key role and regular playing time in the squad.
Only a medical examination and the signing of the final contract remain before the midfielder completes a long-term move to England.
FC Nordsjælland sporting director Alexander Riget had previously hinted that a summer transfer was likely, praising Yirenkyi’s development and describing him as one of the best midfielders in the Danish Superliga.
The Ghanaian has now positioned himself for a major step into one of Europe’s top leagues, with Coventry City set to secure one of the biggest transfers in Scandinavian football history.
