Crystal Palace have made an approach to AS Monaco over a potential loan deal for Ghanaian centre-back Mohammed Salisu, according to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons.
The 26-year-old defender has found himself on the fringes at Monaco since joining from Southampton in 2023. After an injury-hit first season, Salisu initially forced his way into the lineup during the second campaign but eventually slipped down the pecking order. His last start came in February, and the summer arrival of Eric Dier has further limited his chances.
Reports in June suggested that Salisu was seeking a move away from the Principality, and Crystal Palace are now exploring the possibility of bringing him back to the Premier League. A loan switch would mark a return to England for the Ghana international, who made 62 appearances in the Premier League during his time at Southampton.
However, Palace face competition from Greek champions Olympiacos, who are also in talks with the defender’s representatives and Monaco. A move to Greece would offer Salisu the chance to feature in the UEFA Champions League, while Palace could provide him with familiarity and top-flight stability.
Aarons adds that Salisu is not the only defensive option on Palace’s shortlist, with Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji also attracting interest. The Swiss international, 30, is being monitored by Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray as well.
