Leeds United boss Javi Gracia has hinted that English-born Ghanaian youngster Darko Gyabi will be in contention for a Premier League role due to Tyler Adams’ injury.
The Whites are back in Premier League action this weekend as they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Last weekend’s draw with Brighton and Hove Albion wasn’t a terrible result by any stretch of the imagination – especially with the Seagulls pushing the top four now.
Leeds still sit second-bottom of the Premier League table though and really need wins in order to secure survival.
Three points this weekend would be huge but Leeds will have to go into this game without midfielder Tyler Adams.
The American international is out of action due to a hamstring injury and leaves a gaping hole in the Leeds midfield.
Leeds do have other options though, and it would involve Gracia calling upon a young player or two to make a big step up.
Gracia has now told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Darko Gyabi is ‘one option’ to come into the team in place of Adams.
Gracia noted that Gyabi has been used in that role during Leeds training, so he is at least in the thinking ahead of the trip to Molineux.
Gyabi, 19, joined Leeds from Manchester City last summer and has long been tipped for stardom.
A bright prospect at Millwall before leaving in 2018, Gyabi showed promise at City but was allowed to leave last summer.
Leeds struck a deal worth £5million for Gyabi, highlighting just how much potential the midfielder has in his locker.
Gyabi only has seven minutes of Premier League action to his name this season but having impressed in Premier League 2, the teenager is in contention for the Whites this weekend.
