Ghanaian defender David Acquah produced a dramatic stoppage-time winner to hand FC Aarau a 2–1 away victory over FC Vaduz in the Swiss Challenge League.
The centre-back rose highest in the 90+4th minute, powering home a decisive header to complete a spirited comeback and cap a commanding individual display that saw him rank among the top performers on the pitch.
Aarau had taken control of the contest in the 37th minute when Shkelqim Vladi finished clinically after sustained pressure from the visitors. However, Vaduz responded just before the break, with Milos Cocic striking in the 45th minute to restore parity and send both sides into halftime at 1–1.
The hosts improved after the restart and enjoyed spells of possession, but Aarau remained the more threatening side overall, registering more shots and consistently finding space in the final third.
Acquah’s late heroics ultimately rewarded Aarau’s persistence and extended their positive run of form. Fellow Ghanaian Daniel Afriyie also featured in the match, contributing to Aarau’s defensive efforts as they held firm in the closing stages.
The victory keeps Aarau’s momentum intact as they turn their attention to their next Challenge League fixture away to Yverdon-Sport FC on Friday, May 15.
