Black Meteors head coach Desmond Offei has defended his commitment to monitoring the Ghana Premier League, insisting that he does not need to announce his presence whenever he visits league centres to watch matches.
Offei’s comments come as Ghana intensifies preparations for the two-legged encounter against Libya in the qualifiers for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
The coach also praised Hearts of Oak for their performances, revealing that his technical team has already identified talented players in the domestic league who could strengthen the national U-23 side.
“Hearts of Oak are doing fantastically well. We have already identified the talented boys in the Ghana Premier League,” Offei said.
Responding to suggestions that he has shown little interest in local football, the Black Meteors coach insisted that his scouting activities should not be judged by whether he publicly announces his presence at match venues.
“I don’t have to announce myself when I visit a league centre to watch a Ghana Premier League game,” he stated.
Offei’s remarks underline the importance of the domestic league as the Black Meteors assess potential players ahead of their crucial qualifying fixtures against Libya, with the team seeking to secure a place at the 2027 U-23 AFCON.
