Ivorian legend Didier Drogba has shared a powerful reflection on how football transformed his country during its first-ever World Cup qualification.

Looking back on that historic moment, Drogba said the achievement went far beyond sport, describing the unity and national pride it brought during a difficult period in Ivory Coast’s history.

In his words, “The day we qualified for the first ever World Cup for the country, we achieved something that went beyond football… it’s more than a game.”

Drogba’s remarks highlight how football has often served as a bridge for peace, hope, and togetherness across the continent, especially in moments of national tension.

The Elephants’ debut on the global stage remains one of the most iconic moments in African football.
