John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to build three modern stadiums within the year, emphasizing that this initiative will be part of a continuous program to upgrade sports infrastructure across the country.

Speaking at a public event, President Mahama outlined his vision for the new stadiums, describing them not just as venues for sports but as multifunctional centers that will serve communities in a variety of ways.

He explained that the facilities will include shops, restaurants, and entertainment zones, creating vibrant spaces where people can gather, eat, shop, and enjoy leisure activities alongside sporting events.

According to him, the project aims to boost local economies, attract tourism, and provide safe, modern spaces for youth development and national sporting events. He emphasized that such stadiums would become community hubs, offering both recreation and business opportunities, while also promoting Ghana’s image on the international sports stage.

President Mahama further highlighted that the stadium-building initiative would continue in the coming years, ensuring that more regions benefit from state-of-the-art sports infrastructure. He described the program as part of a broader effort to modernize Ghana’s facilities, encourage active lifestyles, and provide venues capable of hosting international tournaments.

The announcement reflects the government’s commitment to integrating sports development with economic growth and community engagement, creating spaces that go beyond traditional stadium functions to include cultural, social, and commercial activities.
“We will build three modern stadiums this year and continue every year. We will want to build stadiums with shops and restaurants, offering food and entertainment for everyone.”—President John Dramani Mahama
