Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has dismissed claims linking the challenges facing Hohoe United to current GFA President Kurt Okraku, insisting that the issue is being misrepresented and unfairly attributed to him.
According to Afriyie, the problems surrounding the club are rooted in deeper structural and administrative issues involving both the club’s leadership and the football governing body itself.
He argued that it is wrong to single out Okraku for criticism, stressing that responsibility should be shared more broadly across the system.
“What has happened to Hohoe United is not linked to Kurt Okraku. We are not being fair to him. The real problem lies with the club owners, and the FA itself is complicit,” he stated.
Afriyie also questioned the consistency of disciplinary measures applied by the FA, suggesting that repeated offences are not always met with appropriate escalation in punishment.
“Under our own rules, a repetition of an offence calls for a stiffer punishment. So if I’m Hohoe United and I’m fined GH₵5000 for doing something wrong, and I repeat the offence, it shouldn’t be GH₵5000 again,” he explained.
He added that some FA decisions appear inconsistent, even in cases where clubs commit the same offence multiple times.
“I can show you decisions of the FA where even three times repetition of an offence receives almost the same punishment,” Afriyie noted.
The former GFA vice president’s comments add another layer to ongoing debates about governance, discipline, and fairness within Ghana football administration.
