Black Stars’ all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan has asked Ghanaians to be patient with Felix Afena-Gyan and stop making comparisons between the youngster and himself.
Afena-Gyan made his national team debut last month during Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff against Nigeria, with the Stars going on to book qualification.
The 19-year-old has drawn comparison with the former Sunderland star since bursting onto the scene but Asamoah Gyan believes it’s too early to pressure the teenager.
Quizzed about people’s idea of the two players, Gyan told Citi TV, “they shouldn’t put that pressure on the boy. It’s too early to do that comparison.
“There might be something [of me] in there. He is a very good player. He’s got pace, the passion and I saw the game against Nigeria in Kumasi – he was more passionate, you could see he wanted to give something to the people and that is what he did.
“He gave everything on the pitch but he needs improvement. He’s young, when I was at his age I was doing the same but I had to learn a couple of movements,” Gyan added.
Ghanaians will be hoping Afena-Gyan will find his scoring boots before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
