Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe urges GFA to retain Otto Addo despite Black Stars’ struggles

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has expressed his support for Otto Addo to remain as the Black Stars’ head coach, despite the team’s recent struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The 45-year-old coach has faced increasing pressure following Ghana’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in their latest qualifier. The defeat followed an underwhelming start to the campaign, with Ghana losing to Angola and drawing 1-1 against Niger.

Hopes were high for a win in the doubleheader against Sudan, but a goalless draw in the first leg was followed by the 2-0 defeat in Libya, leaving the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying in serious doubt.

In response to mounting calls for Addo’s dismissal, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe insists that sacking the coach is not the solution. Instead, he believes that Addo needs proper guidance from the GFA to turn things around for the team.

“I will not say Otto Addo should be dismissed because that has never been the solution. He rather needs advice,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said in an interview with Asempa FM.

He further emphasized the importance of the GFA’s role in providing support to the coach: “He [Otto Addo] will only do well based on the instructions he will be given by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Otto Addo must not be sacked. Keep him and guide him.”

The Black Stars currently sit third in Group F and will regroup next month for their final two qualifiers against Niger and Angola. To qualify for the 2025 AFCON, Ghana must secure wins in both matches and hope that Sudan drops points in their remaining games.
