Ghanaian youngster Edmund Baidoo was on target as Red Bull Salzburg secured a 4-2 victory over Rapid Wien in a lively Round 32 clash of the Austrian Bundesliga Championship Group on Saturday.
The 19-year-old forward, who featured in the starting lineup and played 69 minutes, netted Salzburg’s third goal of the afternoon. Baidoo calmly finished a well-timed pass from Dorgeles Nene in the 24th minute, much to the delight of the home supporters at Red Bull Arena.
Salzburg got off to a flying start, racing into a 2-0 lead within the first 11 minutes through goals from Oscar Gloukh and Nene. Rapid Wien responded with a strike from Andrija Radulovic, but Baidoo’s composed finish restored the hosts’ two-goal advantage heading into halftime.
Nene added his second of the game with a powerful long-range shot in the 56th minute to all but seal the win. Guido Burgstaller later grabbed a consolation goal for Rapid Wien, but it wasn’t enough to alter the outcome.
The victory further solidified Salzburg’s dominance over their rivals, marking their 37th win in 62 head-to-head encounters with Rapid Wien.
Baidoo continues to shine this season, now with four goals and an assist to his name. Red Bull Salzburg will now shift focus to their upcoming FIFA Club World Cup fixture against Mexican side Pachuca on June 18.
