Alex Matos, the English-born Ghanaian midfielder, has officially joined Championship side Sheffield United on a permanent three-year deal from Chelsea. The Blades secured his signature before the close of the transfer window, paying an undisclosed fee to the Premier League club.
The 20-year-old previously spent the second half of last season on loan at Oxford United, where he gained valuable Championship experience. He is expected to strengthen Sheffield United’s midfield with his versatility and top-flight background.
According to an official club statement, United confirmed that the young midfielder with Premier League exposure had signed to bolster their squad options and add depth to their team.
Speaking after the deal, Matos explained that the decision to join was easy once the interest came in. He shared that he felt it was the right time to move on in order to play regular football and described Sheffield United as a strong club with good people. The midfielder further noted that his loan spells helped his development and expressed excitement about the future with his new side.
Although he has represented England at the U20 level, Matos remains eligible to play for Ghana through his heritage.
