Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has showered praise on the emerging talent, Kobbie Mainoo, for his noteworthy contributions since making his debut in the first team this season.
The 18-year-old English-born Ghanaian midfielder earned his third Premier League start against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, showcasing a poised performance that played a significant role in securing an unexpected 0-0 draw for his side.
“If you are good enough, you are old enough and he proved that,” remarked the impressed Dutch manager during a post-game press conference.
Ten Hag expressed confidence that, as Mainoo becomes more accustomed to such high-stakes matches, his impact will further elevate. He highlighted the midfielder’s scanning ability, quick decision-making, and proficiency in executing passes and switches that can pose a threat to opponents.
“When he gets used more often to those games, we will get even more joy from it. Because then his scanning and his speed of action, he can get such passes, three or four passes in and get switches in, and he is the player who can really hurt opponents.”
Kobbie Mainoo is eligible to play for Ghana despite featuring for England in the junior sides.
