Ghanaian footballers Michael Baidoo and Jalal Abdulai were on the scoresheet as Elfsborg defeated Moldovan side FC Sheriff 2-0 in their UEFA Europa League tie on Thursday evening, securing a comprehensive 3-0 aggregate win.
The Swedes had taken a slender 1-0 advantage into the second leg, which was played at the Borås Arena, and they dominated the match to come out on top. Baidoo and Abdulai started the game for Elfsborg, with Baidoo playing the full 90 minutes and Abdulai lasting 67 minutes.
The Ghanaian duo combined to devastating effect as Abdulai opened the scoring in the first minute with a clinical left-footed shot from the center of the box. Baidoo then sealed the victory in the 73rd minute, converting a right-footed shot from the center of the box after a swift counter-attack involving Simon Hedlund.
With this win, Elfsborg will now turn their attention to their upcoming Swedish Allsvenskan game against GAIS on August 11th at Borås Arena. Currently sitting in 7th place with 25 points from 17 games, Elfsborg will look to build on this momentum to climb further up the table.
