Darren Bent, a former Premier League striker, holds the view that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should restore Thomas Partey to his natural midfield position, discontinuing his recent deployment as a right-back in the past few matches.
As Arteta arranges his midfield setup for the upcoming 2023/24 season, following the inclusion of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, he positioned Partey in a more defensive role.
Nevertheless, Bent recently expressed his belief that a player more accustomed to the right-back position should be utilized, allowing the possibility of Partey joining Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in the midfield trio.
Speaking on TalkSport, Bent remarked, “It’s almost like Mikel Arteta is trying his hardest to get him in. He hasn’t got him in,” Bent told TalkSport, as per TBR Football.
“Listen, he’s an Arsenal player, I’m going to support him, but I still think Arsenal’s best midfielder is Partey. “I don’t want to see Partey at right-back.
“Bring Gabriel back in. (The defence should be) Ben White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko. “Partey, Rice, Odegaard. That midfield three is where the foundation is.”
