Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has expressed keen interest in assuming the position of Sports Minister should the New Patriotic Party (NPP) retain power in the upcoming 2024 General elections.
With less than eight months remaining until the highly anticipated elections, the NPP, led by flag bearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is determined to break the eight-year cycle of alternating power since the inception of the fourth republic.
However, they face formidable opposition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other independent candidates.
Nyantakyi, who recently declared his political aspirations to contest in the forthcoming by-election in the Ejisu constituency, harbors hopes of victory and subsequent appointment as Sports Minister.
“If NPP comes and they make me a Sports Minister, I may consider it but if the NDC comes and they consider me, it will be difficult,” he told Onua TV.
The former football administrator is optimistic about becoming a lawmaker representing the Ejisu constituency following the passing of the incumbent, John Kumah.
The NPP is set to commence nominations for the Ejisu primary today, Tuesday, April 7, and Nyantakyi revealed that delegates have resolved to obtain the nomination forms on his behalf.
