Enoch Adu Kofi, a former Ghanaian youth star, has joined the list of Ghanaian players paying tribute to Asamoah Gyan following his retirement from professional football.
Gyan, who spent nearly two decades representing the national team, decided to hang up his boots during the Annual General Meeting of AfrixemBank on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
Since Gyan’s retirement, a multitude of tributes have poured in, and Adu Kofi is no exception. The midfielder, who currently plays in Finland, took to social media to honor his former Black Stars captain.
“Thank you for your sacrifices, love, and dedication to the nation. You have been an inspiration to me and countless others around the world. You are truly a legend, and I celebrate you. I pray for your long life as you transition into retirement. I am proud of you, legend. Enjoy your well-deserved rest,” Adu Kofi posted on Twitter.
Gyan, who scored 51 goals for the national team, holds the record for the highest number of goals scored by a Ghanaian player and is the second most-capped player in the country’s history.
Furthermore, he is recognized as the highest-scoring African player in the history of the World Cup, having netted six goals.
Currently, Adu Kofi, a former Ghana U17 star, plies his trade in Finland for Ekenas IF, a second-tier club.
