The distressing situation faced by former Black Queens goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana, which was highlighted in an interview with Original FM and subsequently reported by Sportsworldghana, is now poised for a positive transformation.
Former President John Dramani Mahama has swiftly stepped in to offer assistance, signaling a promising change in her circumstances.
According to a report from the Daily Post on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, John Mahama became aware of the unfortunate story surrounding the Ghanaian football legend and took immediate action to aid her.
As per the Daily Post report, the initial act of compassion carried out by the National Democratic Congress flagbearer involved securing a fully furnished one-bedroom apartment for Memunatu Sulemana in Dansoman, a suburb of Accra. This gesture was completed on Monday, August 28, 2023.
Additionally, the report indicates that John Mahama, through associates, intends to provide a financial contribution to Memunatu Sulemana, enabling her to establish a new path towards success.
John Mahama’s intervention comes in response to the heartrending report filed by Sportsworldghana.com, shedding light on the harsh living conditions faced by the former goalkeeper, who was residing in a dilapidated structure in the Bubiashie suburb of Accra.
Having played for various clubs, including Post Ladies in Ghana and Pelican Stars in the Nigeria Women’s Premier League, Sulemana’s career spanned different avenues. While some of her peers transitioned to alternative professions after retiring from football, the 45-year-old Sulemana has struggled with profound poverty. Despite earning income from her football career, a substantial portion was directed towards caring for her grandmother, who battled diabetes and required ongoing medical attention.
