Discussions have taken place between Asante Kotoko’s management and former Black Stars coach, CK Akonnor, regarding the vacant coaching position at the club.
Currently, the Porcupine Warriors do not have a permanent head coach after the dismissal of Burkina Faso coach Seydou Zerbo due to poor performance. Abdul Gazale is currently serving as interim coach.
However, the club has identified Akonnor as their top choice for the head coach position and ongoing discussions have taken place. Sources indicate that Akonnor, who previously managed the club from 2018 to 2019, has been consulting with people regarding the current situation of the club before accepting the role.
The management of Kotoko has requested that Akonnor take over as head coach for the remainder of the season before being awarded a contract at the end of the current season. However, Akonnor has yet to accept this offer.
Akonnor has previously served as the head trainer of the club, appointed in October 2018 on a three-year deal, after resigning from AshantiGold SC and replacing Paa Kwesi Fabin.
During his previous stint, he led the team to play in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup and to win the Normalisation Committee Special Competition. Akonnor has also managed Eleven Wise, Dreams FC, and Hearts of Oak.
