Newly promoted Ghana Premier League side AshantiGold 04 have opened discussions with former Asante Kotoko winger Peter Amidu Acquah as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the top flight.
The talented winger became available on the transfer market after officially parting ways with Asante Kotoko following the expiration of his contract, ending a three-year relationship with the Porcupine Warriors.
According to reports, both parties were unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension, forcing Acquah to leave the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as a free agent.
The 20-year-old attacker departs Kotoko after establishing himself as one of the club’s most promising young talents since joining the Ghanaian giants in 2023 under former head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Acquah arrived at Kotoko from PAC Academy with a reputation as an exciting young winger and quickly adapted to the demands of playing for one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.
Blessed with pace, confidence and the ability to take on defenders, the right winger became a regular feature in the Porcupine Warriors’ attacking setup.
His direct style of play and willingness to create opportunities made him a valuable option on the flanks, earning him recognition among the league’s emerging talents.
During his time with Kotoko, Acquah made 75 appearances across competitions, scoring nine goals and providing three assists, figures that highlight his involvement in the club’s attacking output despite his young age.
Transfermarkt lists Acquah as a right winger with a market valuation of around €150,000, reflecting his potential and growing profile within Ghana football.
AshantiGold 04, who are preparing for life back in the Ghana Premier League, have identified Acquah as a player capable of adding quality, speed and creativity to their attacking department.
The Obuasi-based club is believed to be keen on building a competitive squad capable of challenging established top-flight teams, and securing a young player with Premier League experience fits into their recruitment strategy.
Negotiations are currently ongoing, with AshantiGold hoping to convince the former Kotoko winger to become one of the faces of their new Premier League project.
For Acquah, the next move represents an important stage in his career. Having gained valuable experience at Kotoko, the winger now has the opportunity to take greater responsibility and continue his development.
Several clubs are believed to have monitored his situation following his impressive performances, meaning AshantiGold may face competition as they attempt to secure his signature.
With his contract situation resolved, all attention now turns to where the highly-rated winger will continue his career as he looks to build on the foundation created during his time with Asante Kotoko.
