Former Gambia head coach, Tom Saintfiet, has formally joined the race to become the next Black Stars coach.

Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively report that Saintfiet has sent his application to the Ghana Football Association and could land the Black Stars job after the sacking of Chris Hughton.

Ghana, four-times Africa champions again failed to progress from the group stage after AFCON 2021 disaster in Cameroon, where Senegal emerged as winners.

Saintfiet, 50, recently vacated his role as manager of the Gambia national football team. He qualified the country for their first African Cup of Nations in 2021, leading them to a quarter-final finish.

He again lead to the team to the 2023 Nations Cup competition in Ivory Coast. Despite it failing to pick a point in the three games played, the Gambia showed glimpses of top performance at the tournament and wants to become the next Black Stars manager.

He has extensive experience in African football, having taken over as Namibia’s head coach in 2008.

Since then, he has led Zimbabwe, Malawi, Togo, Ethiopia, and Gambia.

The Belgian has also worked in Nigeria as a technical advisor.
