English-born Ghanaian defender, Genesis Antwi has committed his future to Chelsea by signing a scholarship deal with the club. He finalized the agreement on Friday, July 7, 2023.

Antwi, a talented right-back, is currently a member of Chelsea’s Under-18 team. The club has shown faith in his potential by offering him a scholarship deal, allowing him to further develop his skills and progress within the Chelsea youth system.

Signing a scholarship deal is an important step for young players in their journey towards professional football. It provides them with an opportunity to continue their development under the guidance of the club’s coaching staff and to showcase their abilities in competitive youth competitions.

With his commitment to Chelsea, Genesis Antwi aims to follow in the footsteps of other successful academy graduates who have made their mark in the professional game. By honing his skills and gaining valuable experience, he hopes to one day make his mark in the senior squad and contribute to the club’s success.

Last season, under the guidance of Ed Brand, the Chelsea U18 team finished eighth, reached the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup, and emerged as winners of the Under-18 Premier League Cup by defeating Fulham at Craven Cottage.

In terms of international experience, Antwi, 16, has represented England at the Under-16 level. Antwi is also eligible to play for Ghana as well as Sweden.

It is a requirement for all players in their Under-17 year to start the season with a scholarship arrangement before being eligible to sign their first professional football contract, which can take place on or after their 17th birthday.
