Italian coach Roberto Donadoni has been formally interviewed for the Ghana coaching job as the FA’s search gains momentum, with several candidates vying for the coveted position.
The vacancy arose after Chris Hughton and his technical team were dismissed following Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The search for Hughton’s replacement has been robust, with over 500 applications received by the Ghana Football Association.
However, Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively confirm that Donadoni, the former Italy national team and Napoli coach, has expressed keen interest in becoming the next coach of the Black Stars.
Donadoni, aged 60, boasts an extensive managerial career, having led nine teams including Lecco, Livorno, Genoa, Napoli, Cagliari, Parma, Bologna, and Shenzhen. He began his managerial journey in 2001, reaching the pinnacle when he helmed the Italy national team from 2006 to 2008.
During his tenure, Italy reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2008, eventually falling to eventual champions Spain in a penalty shootout.
The GFA has tasked the committee with proposing a successor within a three-week timeframe for approval by the Executive Council. Specific criteria, including a minimum of 15 years of coaching experience, have been outlined for candidates aspiring to lead the Black Stars.
