Two former MTN FA Cup-winning coaches, Abdul Karim Zito and Samuel Boadu, are set to lock horns in a highly anticipated semifinal clash, with both sides eyeing the coveted trophy and a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Asante Kotoko, guided by Zito, booked their spot in the semifinals with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over True Democracy, sealed by Kwame Opoku’s late penalty. Meanwhile, Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea edged past Bechem United 1-0 in a tense regional derby, thanks to a first-half penalty from Stephen Amankona.
With both clubs enduring inconsistent domestic campaigns, the FA Cup represents their last shot at silverware this season—adding extra intensity to the tie.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Zito acknowledged the challenge that awaits, praising his opposite number and the quality of the contest.
“It’s never easy. It’s very difficult. I know what he [Coach Samuel Boadu] can do as a coach. It’s been long since we won one of these cups, so we are all eager to win, and I know it won’t be easy for us. It will be very difficult,” Zito told the media.
The semifinal will kick off at 16:00 GMT on Saturday, May 11, at the newly built TnA Stadium, with both teams determined to move one step closer to FA Cup glory.
