Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Barcelona and Manchester City are in competition to sign Rennes’ Belgium international winger, Jérémy Doku, during this summer’s transfer window.
Manchester City is keen on the 21-year-old as a replacement for winger Riyad Mahrez, who recently joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli. Talks between Doku and Manchester City are already underway, but no official offer has been made, and discussions with Rennes about a transfer fee are yet to occur, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
While Manchester City appears to be the frontrunner for Doku’s signature, Barcelona is also strongly in contention. The La Liga side is looking to find a replacement for Ousmane Dembélé, who is set to move to Paris Saint-Germain after his release clause was triggered by the French club.
Rennes values Doku at approximately €50 million. Talks regarding his future are still at an early stage, but there is expected to be movement soon for the talented and skillful winger.
Doku showed impressive form and fitness in Ligue 1 towards the end of last season, rebounding from two years of repeated fitness issues.
