World football governing body (FIFA) has fined Nigeria CHF 150,000 and also banned their spectators from the stadium for one match following crowd violence in the 2022 world cup play off second leg game against Ghana in Abuja on March 29.
Fans of the Super Eagles invaded the stadium destroyed items and also causes a stampede which left to the death of a CAF official after Ghana qualified on away goal rule.
“Order and security at matches (failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play and throwing of objects.” The release from FIFA on Tuesday morning stated
“Article 16 FDC. Fine of CHF 150,000 One (1) match without spectators.”
Nigeria’s next competitive home game is against Sierra Leone in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
