Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, has put forward the idea of establishing a standardized football academy in Ghana, among other African countries, as part of FIFA’s efforts to enhance football development globally.
Wenger’s remarks followed his attendance at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Ivory Coast claimed victory.
The former Arsenal manager disclosed that FIFA is actively engaged in elevating football standards worldwide and is set to inaugurate academies in 75 countries by the conclusion of 2026.
“We are on the verge of launching new academies in Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana, and Zambia in the next six months to a year. By 2026, our aim is to establish 75 academies globally. This initiative marks a significant stride in football education, which is our current focal point,” Wenger explained, as reported by FIFA.
He further stated, “Our goal is to enhance the caliber and competitiveness of the sport, a feat attainable through enhanced football education and the introduction of higher-quality competitions.”
