Ecuador 1-3 Brazil
In the first game of the Knockout phase of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, Brazil eliminated their South American counterparts, Ecuador, by winning 3-1.
At the Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, in a very competitive game that belies the ages of the boys, 16-year-old Willian Estavao opened the scoring for Brazil in the 14th minute.
Micheal Bermudez equalised in the additional four minutes at the end of the 45 for Ecuador. The highly rated Estevao restored Brazil’s lead in the 71st minute with Luighi’s 90th minute strike being the icing on the cake.
Brazil is the defending champions and the four-time winners of the U-17 World Cup are the bookmaker’s favourites to defend their title as they have weathered the storm after surprisingly losing their opening game 3-2 Iran.
