Black Maidens Head Coach, Baba Nuhu believes Morocco will not be a mere pushover as the team prepares to take on the North Africans in the 1st leg of the final round of qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Morocco.
Coach Nuhu has been speaking to us ahead of this crucial tie.
On team focus:
We have been on course after urging out Guinea but we needed to step up our preparations for Morroco because for them, to also eliminate Niger means they are also on course.
On player fitness and logistics:
There are no minnows in Women football currently and for that reason, we are not leaving any stone unturned. After the Guinea match we have been in camp except for periods where some of the players are released to play for their clubs in the Women’s Premier League which goes a long way to put the players in shape as well.
As a team the players are in good shape and the GFA and Ministry of Youth and Sports have provided us with the needed logistics to aid our victory.
Responding to a question asked whether Morocco possesses any threat, he replied: “Every team at this stage is a threat and a potential World Cup candidate because we have all gone through series of matches to get here. We even played a friendly match with them (Morroco) before starting the qualifiers and they were not bad even though we won that game. This is a different game, a World Cup qualifier. I know it will not be easy but I believe my players will win.
Touching on support from Ghanaians, Baba Nuhu said: “We need the support and prayers of every Ghanaian. We know we have come this far not by ourselves but also with their support and prayers and we still asking them to continue to pray and support us to victory in this crucial two-leg affair.
The Black Maidens are scheduled to take on Morocco on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 3:00pm at the Accra Sports stadium.
