The Black Princesses came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Uganda in the first leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Uganda took the lead in the 32nd minute, silencing the home crowd. But Ghana returned for the second half with renewed purpose and intensity.

Substitute Priscilla Mensah drew Ghana level in the 58th minute with a powerful header, igniting belief in the stands.

The Princesses pushed for the lead but were repeatedly denied by Uganda’s outstanding goalkeeper, who pulled off a string of saves to keep the visitors in it.

The breakthrough finally came in the 85th minute. Latifa Abesik finished off a brilliant move after Jessica Appiah delivered a perfect pass from the flank to seal the winner.

Priscilla Mensah nearly added a third late on, but was twice denied by the woodwork.

The 2-1 win gives Ghana a crucial advantage heading into the return leg in Uganda.
