Augustine Eguavoen will lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria against Ghana in next month FIFA 2022 World Cup play off.
Eguavoen stood in as interim coach of the Super Eagles in the just ended AFCON as they reached the second round. The NFF held talk with Portuguese gaffer Jose Peseiro before the tournament in Cameroon and was scheduled to take the team this week but the Nigeria football ruling body has asked him to hold on as they fancy Eguavoen.
“I am still talking to him (Peseiro), maybe he has to wait till after the World Cup qualifiers (vs Ghana),”Amaju Pinnick, NFF boss told Channels TV.
“If in the course of his waiting, he got another job, we wish him well.
“The good news is that we did not sign the contract officially.
“We don’t want to rush and make a hasty decision considering the circumstances.
“We have to do what is best for the nation.
“And we work in harmony with the sports ministry, which represents the government.” He added
Eguavoen resigned after the 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the round of 16 of the 2021 AFCON but he is set to be inline for the game against Ghana,
