Ghana’s Black Stars were held to a shocking 1-1 draw by Chad in their match-day seven clash of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Marshal Idriss Déby Itno Olympic Stadium.
Jordan Ayew gave Ghana the lead in the 16th minute after connecting a fine cross from Mohammed Kudus. But the Black Stars failed to capitalize on their advantage, with missed chances from Kamaldeen Sulemana and defensive errors nearly costing them.
Chad, who started strongly and kept threatening, finally got their reward in the 89th minute when Célestin Ecua struck home after a deflection to level the game.
Coach Otto Addo had left senior players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Salisu, and Tariq Lamptey on the bench, instead starting youngsters including Caleb Yirenkyi, Jonas Adjetey, and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
The result means Ghana have dropped points for the first time in this qualifying campaign but still sit on top of Group I with 16 points after seven matches.
The Black Stars will return to action on Monday, September 8, when they host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium. Chad will also be in action against Madagascar.
