Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has omitted the injured Joseph Paintsil from his squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic. The former Borussia Dortmund talent coach unveiled the squad on Wednesday at the GFA secretariat in preparation for the crucial games.
Paintsil, who has had an impressive start to his time at LA Galaxy with four goals and six assists in 13 games, will miss out due to injury. The GFA director of communications confirmed this during the press conference.
The Black Stars will take on Mali on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako for the third round of qualifying for the Canada and USA World Cup. Four days later, they will return to Ghana to face the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the fourth-round match.
Ghana kicked off its qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Madagascar in Kumasi but suffered a similar defeat to Comoros in the second group game. Currently, Ghana occupies fourth place in Group I with three points, trailing leaders Comoros by three points.
