Ghana’s newbie defender Tariq Lamptey says the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa is his best tournament ever.
The Brighton and Hove Albion youngster says he watched the World Cup with his family as the Black Stars made history by reaching the quarter-final of the tournament.
According to him, he was just nine years old and remember a lot of people always gathered in anticipation ahead of the games.
“The one that stands out was South Africa 2010. I was nine years old. Ghana got to the quarterfinals.”
“The vibe was amazing. I watched at home with my family. Everyone was crowded around the TV, waiting for kickoff. We were all so full of raw emotion,” he told GQ.
Lamptey recently made his Ghana debut against Brazil in an international friendly game in France at the Stade Oceane in Le Havre September 23.
He’s expected to be named in Black Stars team by coach Otto Addo for the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar next month.
