Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has reportedly taken the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to FIFA over alleged outstanding financial obligations following the termination of his contract in March 2026.
According to Joy Sports journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, the 50-year-old is seeking more than $750,000 in unpaid salaries, bonuses and other contractual entitlements after efforts to secure payment from the GFA reportedly proved unsuccessful.
Addo is said to be claiming approximately 15 months’ worth of unpaid salaries, in addition to performance-related bonuses and other benefits outlined in his contract with the Ghana Football Association. The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach reportedly earned $50,000 per month, meaning the salary arrears alone amount to around $750,000, excluding any additional contractual payments.
The dispute stems from the end of Addo’s second spell as Black Stars coach, which came to an abrupt conclusion on March 31, 2026, following Ghana’s disappointing performances during the March international window.
The GFA relieved Addo of his duties after the Black Stars suffered successive defeats in friendly matches, losing 5-1 to Austria in Vienna before falling 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart. The defeats extended Ghana’s losing streak to four matches and intensified pressure on the technical team.
His dismissal came just over two months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana were preparing to face England, Croatia and Panama in Group L.
Addo had returned to the Black Stars in March 2024 for a second stint after previously leading the national team between 2022 and 2023. His reappointment was aimed at guiding Ghana back to stability following the departure of Chris Hughton.
The reported FIFA complaint marks the latest chapter in the fallout from Addo’s departure, with the former Ghana international now seeking intervention from world football’s governing body to recover what he believes he is contractually owed.
The Ghana Football Association is yet to issue an official response to the reported FIFA claim or comment publicly on the allegations regarding the outstanding payments.
