Former Elmina Sharks forward Richard Atikah has sadly passed away, with the club confirming the news in a heartfelt statement released over the weekend.
Elmina Sharks paid glowing tribute to their former top scorer, describing Atikah as a true legend whose impact on the club will never be forgotten.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Richard Atikah, our former top scorer and a true Elmina Sharks legend. Your goals, passion, and love for the badge will never be forgotten. Rest in perfect peace, champ. Our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the entire Elmina Sharks FC family,” the club wrote.
Atikah was a central figure in the formative years of Elmina Sharks, playing a crucial role in the club’s historic rise through the divisions. He was instrumental in helping the Sharks secure promotion ahead of the 2008/09 season, laying the foundation for their future progress.
Renowned for his goalscoring prowess, Atikah finished as the club’s top scorer during their time in the lower leagues and went on to represent Elmina Sharks in the Ghana Premier League, where his commitment and performances endeared him to fans.
Although he never earned a call-up to the Ghana national team, Richard Atikah carved out cult hero status in Elmina, becoming a symbol of loyalty, passion, and dedication to the Sharks’ cause.
