Former Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong attributes club’s poor form to ‘inexperience’

Former Asante Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong, now coaching at Division Two side Fast Track FC, has emphasized that inexperience is hindering Asante Kotoko’s performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Despite acknowledging the individual talent within the squad, Frimpong believes that it takes more than just skill to succeed at a club like Kotoko.

The Porcupine Warriors have struggled in the second round of the league, managing to secure only four points from nine matches, which has left them in eleventh place on the table.

Frimpong highlighted his observations from watching Kotoko games, citing instances where he noticed the players’ lack of experience impacting the team’s performance.

“I have watched most of Kotoko’s games this season, and at times, if you are at the stadium watching, you could clearly see that most of them are inexperienced, and it sometimes affects the team,” he explained in an interview with Guide Radio.

Drawing on a specific example from a match against Nations FC, where former Kotoko player Prince Acquah was on the opposing team, Frimpong emphasized the importance of experience in such encounters.

“I was at the stadium watching Kotoko against Nations FC, and I played with Prince Acquah, a former player of Kotoko, who was playing for Nations FC. I was telling my colleague that if Prince Acquah is playing against these current Kotoko players, there is no fear because he has seen it all,” he elaborated.

Frimpong attributed Kotoko’s recent struggles to the inexperience of most of the players, emphasizing that while there is talent, many have not yet faced the challenges that come with playing at this level.

“So I will also attribute the recent performance of the team to inexperience of most of the players. There are good players but most of them are inexperienced and have not seen things like this before.”

Asante Kotoko will be eager for a turnaround in fortunes as they prepare to face league leaders FC Samartex in upcoming fixtures.
