Glen Johnson Backs Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as Potential Liverpool Forward Target Amid Transfer Uncertainty
Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has tipped Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as a possible forward option for the Reds, amid ongoing speculation surrounding several key attackers at Anfield.
With Darwin Núñez facing scrutiny for his inconsistent performances and frequent missed chances, and uncertainty lingering over the futures of Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota, Liverpool may be forced to reinforce their attacking line this summer. Mohamed Salah, now 31, has largely shouldered the goal-scoring burden in recent seasons.
Speaking to Football Insider, Johnson acknowledged the quality of the current crop but suggested a shake-up could be on the horizon.
“I like all three of them, but if I had to pick one [to keep], it would probably be Díaz. When he’s on form, he’s fantastic. He doesn’t get as many goals as his ability should allow, but he’s a pain in the backside for defenders, gets the team up the pitch,” Johnson said.
When asked who could be a viable replacement, Johnson identified Ghana international Antoine Semenyo as a potential fit.
“Maybe Semenyo – he’s quick, powerful, explosive. But it would, obviously, be a massive step forward playing for Liverpool. You never know what someone can do until you chuck them in the deep end. I’d probably pick him.”
The 25-year-old Semenyo has been one of Bournemouth’s standout performers this season, registering 11 goals and 6 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. Known for his direct running, physicality, and pace, Semenyo’s attributes could offer Liverpool a different dynamic in the final third.
While Johnson reiterated his admiration for Díaz, he noted that Semenyo’s potential and raw athleticism make him an intriguing option for Liverpool, especially as the club is expected to undergo a squad overhaul under new manager Arne Slot, with a focus on revitalising the attack.
