Fred Acheampong, the winner of the Ahafo Ano South Parliamentary primaries for the New Patriotic Party has criticised Chris Houghton’s appointment and has expressed his optimism of the Black Stars returning to their glory days.

Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi, the Kessben FM sports analyst criticized Chris Hughton’s performance.

“Chris Hughton, who took over the Black Stars Technical Advisory job, learned nothing, and the matches he played were unconvincing, even when we won. From the start, I saw him (Chris Hughton) as the wrong choice to lead our senior national squad.”

The  Ex-Ashantigold CEO surprisingly defended the GFA and disclosed that Ghana will bounce back under this administration.

“People have attributed the Black Stars’ recent bad performance to the FA, claiming that we have failed, but this is false. I believe we will bounce back to our golden days, especially given the process we have begun by establishing the fundamentals,” Achee added.

Fred Acheampong sounded positive about the criteria they are using now to appoint a new head coach for the Black Stars.

“We admit that the appointment of coaches in the past has been problematic, but based on the criteria stated this time, the FA will hire a competent coach and will undoubtedly make the right choice this time around,” he said.

On Ghaianas calling for a Grade A Manager like Herve Renard, Fred Achee revealed that Ghana is financially not strong enough to hire Herve Renard.

“Hervé Renard has always been the preferred choice of the FA since the departure of CK Akonnor, and while the coach is willing to coach Ghana, the economic circumstances make it difficult for us to hire him,” concluded Fred Achee.

Ghanaians believe the current Football Association has destroyed their favourite sport hence leading journalists and football fans have planned to demonstrate against the Football Association on 14th February 2023.
