Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Alhassan has voiced concerns over the recent performance of Kotoko captain and Black Stars goalkeeper Frederick Asare, urging him to approach his role with more seriousness.
Asare faced heavy criticism following Kotoko’s defeat to Legon Cities in a Ghana Premier League match held at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday.
In an interview with Kessben FM, Alhassan emphasized that Asare risks losing his starting position to fellow goalkeeper Mohammed Camara if he does not improve his focus. “Frederick Asare should be serious,” Alhassan stated, warning that once Camara takes the lead role, it may be challenging for Asare to reclaim the number one spot. “Frederick Asare is a very good goalkeeper but should be mindful of Camara because he is equally good,” he continued, praising Camara’s capabilities.
Alhassan added that Camara’s skill level could have earned him a place in the Ghana National Team if he were Ghanaian.
“If Camara Mohammed was a Ghanaian he would have been invited to the National team” he added.
Despite the setback against Legon Cities, Asante Kotoko currently sits in second place on the Ghana Premier League table. They will face Heart of Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, aiming to secure a win to maintain their standing in the league.
