Bibiani GoldStars coach, Frimpong Manso, has called on Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to give the three locally-based players a chance to feature in Ghana’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
The players in question—Razak Simpson, Isaac Afful, and Emmanuel Antwi—were named in the squad for the crucial fixtures, and Manso believes it is vital for them to get playing time despite the typically limited opportunities for local players in the national team.
Given Ghana’s slim chances of qualifying for the AFCON, Manso emphasized that these final qualifiers must serve as a platform for local players to prove their worth, which could inspire their peers and strengthen the domestic league.
“Our chances of qualifying for the AFCON are about 10 percent, so I believe the local players in the squad must be given the chance to prove themselves,” Manso told Asempa FM. “This will be beneficial not only for the players but also for the Ghana Premier League, as it will motivate other local players to work harder.”
The Black Stars are set to depart for Luanda today for their match against Angola on Friday, November 15, at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, before returning home to face Niger on Monday, November 18, at the Accra Sports Stadium in their final qualifying game.
