Turkish football giants Galatasaray have entered the race to secure the signature of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey this summer, rivalling Fenerbahce in the pursuit.
According to reports from Turkish outlet Takvim, Galatasaray is prepared to engage with Arsenal in negotiations to secure the 30-year-old’s services.
Partey, who has endured a season marred by injuries with Arsenal, could be on the move with his contract set to expire in June next year. Fenerbahce’s president Ali Koc has expressed interest in bringing the Ghana international to the club, with a formal offer potentially on the horizon pending his continuation as president next month.
Arsenal’s recent contract extension with Jorginho suggests a shifting landscape in midfield, potentially affecting Partey’s future. The Gunners are eyeing recruits in the defensive midfield position, with names like Martin Zubimendi, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joao Neves circulating in transfer talks.
Partey’s tenure with Arsenal, plagued by numerous injuries, has raised doubts about his reliability over a consistent stretch of matches. While Arsenal could utilize him in a rotational capacity, the Ghanaian may seek regular playing time elsewhere, raising speculation about his potential departure from the club.
In the competition between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, financial considerations may play a significant role. Galatasaray’s willingness to approach Partey’s £200,000-a-week wages could give them an edge over Fenerbahce, whose highest earners fall short of that figure. With Partey valued at £17 million, Arsenal could hold out for a substantial transfer fee in negotiations.
